Tapping Into Your Self-Improvement Power

October 15th, 2009 Reviews by Ray 1 comment

Self-improvement is focused on continual, gradual change that assists us improve both our way of life and ourselves. It’s not just about attaining material wealth or objects. It comes down to attaining dozens of qualities we admire in other people: confidence, reassurance, etc. However, most of us don’t think about these things until that which you do isn’t working even around the most basic level anymore. If it’s working “somewhat,” then we often still be satisfied with less and complement just putting one foot following the other, day-to-day, just during.

Sometimes, things become worse all of a sudden, like when you have an abrupt crisis. You no doubt know you need to handle it right then, with no hassle. So you do. However, we sometimes may well not even observe that situations are getting worse gradually, because we’ve become very much accustomed to handling the worries. It’s a tiny bit like putting a frog inside a lukewarm pot of water and gradually arriving the temperature. The frog doesn’t even realize he’s being boiled to death until it’s too late.

Are you currently that way frog? Can you continue to handle stress after stress after stress, not really noticing that the situation is getting worse, until all of a sudden you just can’t handle it anymore? Many of us are, but exactly what do we do about it? A lot of us are so absorbed inside our own problems, too, that individuals don’t notice other people’s problems. Here, too, we must turn our attention outward and observe the rest of the world; they have problems, too, just as we do.

In case you are wise, you know you need to be on the lookout and learn your lessons through joy and happiness in addition to through pain and crisis. However, unless you (that is what a lot of people do), the powers that be will introduce those lessons through crisis and pain, since you simply must pay attention when something goes wrong. Then, you ask for help. Then, you have to pay attention. Then, you’re employed on changing.

However, you are able to work on self improvement and learn your lessons through joyful experiences rather than painful ones. That’s not to state the modification won’t happen, and for many of us, change are at least a little uncomfortable even when we learn how to accept it. But if you understand it’s coming regardless of what you need to do, you can study to embrace it for the lessons it’ll educate you on and for the gifts it will provide you with. If you stand back and appearance at it in this way (in the same way whenever you stand to fully appreciate that van Gogh painting), you’ll learn to appreciate change and stay happy in the middle of it, even if you will dsicover it uncomfortable sometimes. Itrrrs this that Mother Teresa meant when she said, “Be happy anyway.” Happiness is really a choice, not something you pursue, it doesn’t matter what the American Constitution says.

You also have to understand that whatever preconceived notions folks have in regards to you, you’re your personal person and you don’t need to be based on them. Sometimes, too, we could infer that individuals think specific things about us even though that’s not actually true. They may see us in a entirely different light that people think they do. In either case, you need to quit living through other people’s eyes and start living through your own personal. Although “self improvement” is a word that many people bandy around, actually, it is something that we all have to do, every day.

Wanted- Lasting Self Improvements in Our Life

October 12th, 2009 Reviews by Ray No comments

“There is no value-judgment more important to man – no factor more decisive in his psychological development and motivation – than the estimate he passes on himself.”

    - Nathaniel Branden

Year after year , we make resolutions, don’t we ? Why do we fail in keeping to our resolution to improve ourselves ? Sometimes out of frustration, we seek out different self-improvement programs and books . Has it ever occurred to you why the number of self-help books is on the rise ? Have you wondered why life coaching is becoming more mainstream?

Many people read self-help books and enroll in some new self-improvement program .  They wanted to quit smoking, lose weight, begin exercising, or learn new skills . Most people embark on such success assessment programs because they are discontented with themselves . They believe that if they can modify something in themselves, they will experience contentment.

People’s experiences have led them to believe if they implement some external change inside themselves, they will feel better on the inside. When they receive honors, degrees, and accolades from peers, they feel good. This led to the belief that a good feeling does complement accomplishment. They conclude that by changing things on the outside, by becoming what other people like them to be, their inside world will change.

It is surprising that most people got it all wrong ! Actually, it works the opposite way . CHANGE MUST BEGIN WITHIN YOURSELF .

The process starts with a change in your thoughts and way of thinking . This change of thought often leads to a change in lifestyle. You can improve the way you think, notice a shift in your behavior and view, and start to see yourself in a better light.

While you may have started the conversion of the inner world , it needs to be sustained to avoid going back to the old ways. As you read on, you will be introduced to uncomplicated, useful, logical, time-tested procedures that thousands of successful people have applied to change self-doubt into self-confidence. Some are daily exercises to build up your self-image , while others are reminders of universal laws to help you stay on the right track when you become too reactive to successes and failures.

Just a reality check: Changing how you feel about yourself cannot just happen overnight and will not happen without any exertion. Quick fixes do not work. Lasting inner change requires time and effort.

Society is enamored with instant solutions and quick fixes . Perhaps we can learn from an old proverb about the Chinese bamboo tree: “After the seed for this amazing tree is planted, you see nothing, absolutely nothing, for four years except for a tiny shoot coming out of a bulb. During those four years, all the growth is underground in a massive, fibrous root structure that spreads wide and deep in the earth. But then on the following year, the Chinese bamboo tree grows up to eighty feet!” From this story we learn the meaning of patience and a deeper appreciation of lasting change .

The good news is that confidence is a product accessible to everyone. While initially we were not inherently born with it, this trait can be taught,   nurtured and reinforced over the years, at any point in life.

Dr. Karl Menninger once wrote, “Fears are educated into us, and they can, if they wish, be educated out.” Confidence can be educated into us too. Try a  life coach and watch as you become the great person you were meant to be.

      Save Thousands On Personal Development

October 10th, 2009 Reviews by Ray No comments

      Crossing the Line
In life, there often seems to be a line where many things move from being a positive to a negative.

From a healthy part of our existence to an unhealthy one. From a functional and normal process to a dysfunctional and abnormal one. From something that should be life-enhancing, to something that becomes potentially life-destroying.

      Food
Take food, for example. Over the years, I’ve worked with many people who have turned their healthy eating habits into completely unhealthy eating disorders.

Somewhere along the way, they went from being focused on eating well, to being totally obsessed with, and preoccupied by, food. Something which is fundamental to human existence and survival (eating) somehow becomes their biggest challenge in life. The very thing that will sustain most of us, might well destroy them.

      Exercise
The same thing happens with exercise. The unfit person becomes fit. Before long, they feel better, look better, function better and get lots of approval and recognition – all highly desirable (and potentially addictive) outcomes.

So, they decide to get a little fitter and leaner and train a little more. And more again. They reason: “Well, if one hour of exercise is good, then two hours will be twice as good and three must be amazing!”

Before long, they train whenever and wherever possible. They begin to lie about their exercise habits. They experience anxiety and even anger when they can’t do their workout. They start planning their life around their exercise regime.

It affects them mentally, emotionally and socially. They lose perspective and the healthy pursuit of exercise has now become an unhealthy obsession.

      Money
We see this type of unhealthy behaviour in a range of settings and wrapped around a plethora of everyday issues and responsibilities.

For some people, making money will transition from being a normal, everyday responsibility and necessity to a complete obsession. They will eat, sleep and breathe it. Money will become their identity. Their self esteem. Their sole focus. Or should I say, soul focus?

And, in the middle of their fanatical pursuit of the almighty dollar, they will become physically, emotionally and spiritually bankrupt. They will lose themselves. Their success will not be success at all. Their practical and sensible goal (to earn and save money) will have become an unhealthy and destructive obsession.

      Religion
And speaking of destructive and dysfunctional habits, behaviours and beliefs, I guess I could play the religion card… but do I really need to? Thought not.

      Personal Development
So, let’s talk about the potential dangers of personal development instead; the reason I started this long-winded monologue. “But Craig, surely immersing myself in personal development can’t lead to any kind of undesirable or negative outcomes, can it?”

      Er, only about a thousand.

Like anything else that we might focus on, the pursuit of personal growth can produce a myriad of negative outcomes when we go about it the wrong way. Some people will become quite fanatical and emotional about their new-found insight and reality. Which might compel them to evangelise their un-impressed family, friends and colleagues with an ever-expanding range of theories, ideas, stories and shonky research. And, naturally, that’s always well received.

For the most part, being excited, educated and passionate about something is good, especially when it leads to some kind of positive behavioural change and desirable outcome. When the information is the genesis for practical application and lasting transformation, then personal development is serving its intended purpose.

      It’s positive. It’s practical. It’s transformational. It’s a valuable resource.

      The Reality
But when we step back from all the motivational language, the theories, the mantras, the affirmations and the emotion, can we honestly say that personal development products, programs, services and resources typically (that is, most times) result in significant and lasting transformation for the individuals who partake?

Of course, there is no independent data or research to answer that question accurately or quantitatively (to my knowledge) but if I had to take an educated stab my answer would be… no, most people don’t create significant or lasting change. That’s not to say that they can’t but, rather, that they won’t.

      Life Ain’t No Theory
For some people, the answer will be yes but it’s my experience, observation and opinion that far too many people delude, delay and deny themselves in the theory of transformation (yes, even people who frequent this cyber-classroom) when they should actually be rolling up their sleeves and immersing themselves in the practical, messy, uncomfortable reality of the change process. The doing part.

Stop listening, watching, reading, researching and studying, and start applying what you’ve learned.

After decades of teaching, coaching, learning, studying and watching this stuff in action, I’m of the opinion that, for personal development to be a genuinely effective transformational tool — in a practical, measurable and experiential way — the change process should be somewhere in the vicinity of ninety percent doing stuff (the practical) and ten percent learning stuff (listening, watching, reading, researching, studying).

Of course, the percentages might need to vary a little depending on the individual goal and what stage of the journey we’re at with that goal. But, for the most part, I think 90/10 works.

Sadly, for many people, the percentages are more like 1/99. That is, one percent doing and ninety-nine percent… not doing.

      What are your percentages?

Positive Affirmations and the Manifestation of your Intentions

October 8th, 2009 Reviews by Ray No comments

What’s halting you from manifesting the kind of relationship that you cannot wait to be a part of? Is there anything that is stopping your from making the money that you are dreaming of? What thinking causes you to be in a state of poverty? Can you see the justifications you voice to yourself for the above? As this thought is the reason for why you are always struggling with what you want. You can use Positive Affirmations Self Esteem to help you along the way!

Recall that every constraining thought pattern is a program that your subconscious mind is running without interruption. Medical scientists have discovered that our conscious minds only run at optimum at near 5% most of the time. 95% or more of our daily lives (for most people 99%) we operate our minds on autopilot, the unconscious mind.

In the area of processing information the unconscious mind is over a thousand times more powerful than the conscious mind.

Next, you could discover yourself by asking for more relevant questions like “How do I become more aware of what is in the way of my view, or what my inhibiting beliefs truly are”?

What’s not getting you an idea job you want is not due to the poor economy or job market or you have poor connections with other peopole. What is keeping you from creating enough money is not due to not having the correct set of skills. What is holding you apart from your ideal love relationship is NOT that you are too old, or that all the good ones are taken or because you live out in the boonies.

Every spiritual affirmations master says that everything starts when you find your wish and hunger to accomplish. Then building a want that you can think your way into.

Einstein said, “No problem’s solution is realized from the exact area of consciousness that manifested it.” You need to create and visualise your problems and the the solutions you use. Intention has creative energy. We are all good creators. We were created in the image of the Higher One. When we operate with that level of creation we are moving to that other area that Einstein referred to.

Set an intention to create a SOLUTION. Rather than to figure out the PROBLEM from the area of the problem. This goes far past the area of the intellect. We’re accessing Universal energy when we set this type of intention.

Most accounts of inventors thinking on a solution to a problem that has eluded them have said that the solution came in a flash of insight, a dream state or some unrelated situation.

To activate some creative energy from the perspective of the solution, start to think of what the answer would feel like once it was found.

With positive affirmations, it could go like something, I desire a great paying career, with like-minded co-workers, with quick commute. What would you feel like after getting that? How will it feel at the beginning of your day? What about the closing of your day? Because the workplace is enjoyable and you’re respected by your boss and co-workers, you’re happy to go to work every day and feel relaxed on the way home.

That’s the kind of energy you access during the attraction stages of looking for your ideal job.If there aren’t any counter intentions lurking, what you want will come quite quickly.

Take note that you need to think clean and positive throughout with your expectations and fan out the destructive negative energy. Yes, you can achieve what you want!.

      What Do You Really Want?

October 6th, 2009 Reviews by Ray 1 comment

Ever wonder why some people never get anything good out of their life? That’s because they don’t know what they want in the first place!

You must be specific in your passions, then you must focus all your efforts on that particular desire.

Some people don’t really know what they want. For one moment they’re excited over a particular thing or endeavor. The next thing you know they completely abandon it; either because they lose their interest or because they give up when they encounter a little problem. The people who constantly change their minds and those who give up easily when the going gets tough will never get anywhere. They have not experienced a spiritual awakening. You could be a little bit confused at this time. You don’t seem to know what you really want in life. You might want to consider these to start your spiritual journey:

      1. What makes your heart beat with excitement?

      2. What makes you happy?

      3. What are you consistently thinking of day & night?

      4. What do you want to do for the rest of your life?

      5. What do you enjoy doing?

      6. What are your obsessions?

      7. What things make you jump with joy?

To help you out, just follow these steps.

      1. Write on a piece of paper all your possible answers for the seven questions above. Write anything, even seemingly unimportant ones.

       2. Encircle 5 to 7 items that interests you the most.

       3. Then evaluate and choose with your heart the one and only thing that is worthy to spend all your time and resources with. The choice you make should be something that allows your inner talents to shine.

Other than the exercise above, you could also ask your close friends and relatives about their personal dreams. You could also read books and surf the net to help you in your search.

Use your heart. Other people may disagree with you, but you should be firm with what you really want. Others may give comments or advice, but the final decision is always yours to make. You should concentrate only on what you want and not something other people want for you.

Then you have to constantly visualize and affirm your desires.

If you want to be a lawyer, visualize as one. Act like one. Think of what suit you’re wearing, the judge you’re convincing, the case you’re handling, and the courtroom you’re in. Visualize the evidences. Smell the victory. Make everything real.

Believe that you are what you are visualizing. So you want to be a lawyer? Tell yourself, ‘I’m the best lawyer in the world.’ Don’t say to yourself, ‘I will be the best lawyer in the world.’

Affirm strongly. Say ‘I am,’ not ‘I will,’ because ‘I will’ suggests something that will occur only in the future. You have to experience it NOW and not in the future.

You must sink into your subconscious your deepest desire. The subconscious mind can do what the conscious mind cannot.

      Here’s an exercise.

      1. Get a peaceful and comfortable place to rest.

      2. Relax your whole body. Command every part of your body to relax starting from your feet up to your head.

      3. Slowly count back from 20 to 1, where in each count you relax deeper and deeper. Upon reaching 1, you are completely relaxed.

      4. Now affirm your deepest desire. If you want to be a lawyer, say,’ I am the greatest lawyer in the world.’ As you’re saying that, picture yourself to be the best lawyer ever, winning every case you’ve come across. You may say ‘I am now explaining to the jury my winning proposition’ or anything that will affirm what you’re conceiving in your mind as of the moment.

      5. After about 10 to 20 minutes of continuous confirmation and visualization, count slowly from 1 to 20. Upon counting, slowly be aware of your surroundings. Feel refreshed and invigorated after doing this exercise.

      6. Repeat this exercise every day. You have just learned a very powerful technique to greatly enhance the power of visualization and affirmation by embedding it into the subconscious. What once is nearly impossible to achieve will become easier to reach from now on.

Don’t go sleeping tonight without making a final decision on WHAT YOU REALLY WANT IN LIFE MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. Then every day, visualize and affirm.
